                                                     IRAN  V/S SAUDI ARABIA

Saudi Arabia thrashed minnows Iran by a huge margin of 223 runs in the last league round match played at Entertainment city ground on February 23, 2006 in the ACC Middle East Cup 2006.

Winning the toss & batting first, Saudi Arabia lost their flamboyant opener Fahd Sulaiman earlier for 18 runs but Shahabaz the other opener  displayed one of the best batting performances as he mastered the Iranian attack and played some attractive strokes to keep the Saudi score moving.score sixes. Hayath gave solid support to Shahabaz to score 24 runs. Anyway, it was Soharab the Saudi middle order batsman who then joined Shahabaz as the two plundered runs at will. Both combined so well that their partnership of 143 runs paved way for Saudi tot a huge total. Shahabaz scored a elegant 102 runs which contained 11 fours and 2 huge sixes before Abdul Majid had him caught by Shoukat. Saudi would have posted a much bigger total had not Abdul Ghaffar the Iranian bowler cut inroads to the Saudi batting line up by having Soharab caught by Loghman for a handsome 95 runs which had 4 hits to the fence & 3 towering sixes. Sarfraz was the only other batsman to put up some resistant by a cameo 42 runs as Saud Arabia were all out for 347 runs. Abdul Ghaffar excelled with a  fine spell of 5 for 55 runs while Abdul Majid took 2/55, Abdul Ghani 1/30 & Nariman 1/55.

Anyway the new look Iranian team impressed everyone in their maiden tour to Kuwait as they played up to their potentials to match their much fancied opponents. Sher Mohammed and Abdul Ghaffar steadied the innings but were no match for Saudi bowlers. Iranian batsmen showed their willingness to stick to the wicket but withered away in front of the hostile Saudi attack. Abdul Ghani who played well scored 20 runs  and the Iranians were all out for 124 runs. Shehazad was the most successful bowler for Saudi Arabia with 4/36, while Irfan 3/20, Fahd 1/5, Sarfraz 1/10 & Soharab 1/24 accounted for other wickets
